There are few moments as beautiful as witnessing the birth of a child into our world. It is as scintillating as the innocence of dawn as it peeks out of the horizon. It is nature at its innate glow unstained with civilization. And what could be amazing than delivering your very own sibling yourself?

Few persons know the answer. Few like Jacee Dellapena who have had the real life experience. The young and brave Jacee was not only present in the birthing of her baby brother, but she actually had a hand in the delivery!

Jacee, whose courage far exceeds the dimensions of bravery expected to be worn by a 12 year old heart, is just a seventh-grader from Brandon, Mississippi. Intrepid and inspiring, she contributed a big helping hand in bringing her little brother to life, even as far as cutting his umbilical cord.

Fortunate enough to be in the delivery room as her sibling was being born, yet being too short to be able to watch the drama unfold, Jacee eventually burst into tears due to being so intensely committed to the birth of her new sibling.

I started crying because I was too short to see anything,” she explained. “The doctor was like, ‘Just go ahead and get some gear on and come help me deliver the baby.‘”

She was baffled at the invitation from the doctor (Dr Walter Wolfe) knowing it was an adventurous deviation from normal protocols “I was like, are you kidding me? Are you being real?

Equally as baffled was Jacee’s mother, Dede Carraway.

“I couldn’t believe it. I was like, what? Uh, no. Never in a million years. But the doctor said, ‘I’m being serious. I’ll guide her hands and everythingSo she got up in there and was suddenly in the middle of everything.”

Mrs. Carraway continued by explaining:

She’s already had sex ed at school. I didn’t see a reason why she shouldn’t be there. I don’t hide anything from her. I think that the human body is natural and if she learned about it at school, there’s no reason why she shouldn’t learn about it at home, too.

Further recalling her experience, Jacee went on to say:

I was a nervous wreck. I was nervous and shocked at the same time. I was scared I was going to mess up or do something wrong because there are plenty of things you can do wrong.”

The whole experience was documented in pictures by a collection of awesome photographs(as featured in this article) taken by Jacee’s stepfather,  Zach Carraway.

I want people to know that Zach was in the room, too,” Mrs. Carraway said. “He gave up a lot of his special bonding time with the baby and gave it to Jacee.”

In the end, Mrs. Carraway, with the help of Jacee, gave birth to little Cayson, a 7 pound, 6 ounce baby boy. Many of the photos Mr. Carraway took were posted on Facebook. One person commented on the Facebook post about the special delivery:

Oh my gosh,” Jennifer Frick wrote. “I have chill bumps looking at her reacting. She will love that brother even MORE because you let her be part of this. My heart is going to explode!
